Regarding the China earthquake; I have called the Sichuan Seminary located in Chengdu, provincial capital and close to the epicenter of the earthquake. There were no deaths or injuries among the teachers or students. Praise the Lord. I have no other details. Please continue to pray for rescue efforts. Pray for a medical doctor and his wife who are in China assisting with eye surgeries for a couple of weeks. They report unusal attendance at the churches in the city. So many people want to attend, they must select one night out of the six nights in a week to attend because the building will only seat about 300 on very small crowded wooden chairs.      Pray for the youth who were arrested recently. Officials seized 11 teenagers at an illegal Bible study. The youths, all aged 16 or 17, were detained by the Public Security Bureau (PSB) in Xinjiang at a house church in Huocheng county. Two women in the house with them, Fu Jun and Lu Lanxiang, were also arrested. Most have since been released.

     The two teachers, arrested and detained by police while teaching English, have been released and granted permission to remain in China and resume their work. Their pastor in Maryland reported that the original order required them to leave the country immediately upon release but for some reason, the order was rescinded.
     Most of the students who were also arrested at the same time, have been released, but a few are still in detention. Pray that all will be released and able to return home.
     This incident emphasizes the need for constant prayer covering for works and Christians in China in spite of greater freedoms than ever before. The nation is jittery with the approach of the Olympic Games and is endeavoring to prevent any kind of demonstrations.

An urgent prayer request comes for a couple from a church who have traveled annually to China to teach English. Upon arrival this time they became ill and felt miserable, but worse than that, while teaching one day, the police arrived and arrested them. After a long interrogation, they were finally released with orders to leave China immediately. It is unknown at this time why they were detained nor the reason for the expulsion. Their students were also arrested but it is feared they will not be dealt with as leniently as the teachers. Their is no word about them being released as yet. Pray for their prompt release and their safety.
