Three Buses Explode in Yunnan
Three explosions in the Kunming, capital of the south-western Chinese province of Yunnan, have left at least three people dead and 14 injured, according to reports. Nothing is known yet about the motives, nor has anyone claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they are a source of concern for authorities in Beijing in terms of security measures taken across the country less than three weeks from the start of the Olympics.

China, Russia Finally Resolve Border Issue
China and Russia signed an agreement Monday that ended a decades-long territorial dispute
and finally determined their borders, in the latest sign of warming ties between the former Cold War foes. The protocol, signed by the two countries' foreign ministers in Beijing, added to an existing agreement on their 4,300-kilometer (2,700-mile) boundary, meaning all of the frontier is now set.

A woman fell to her death from a bridge in Beijing as repression against petitioners and protesters increases ahead of next month’s Olympics. The Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (ICHRD) reported that a 54-year-old woman from (Jiangxi) was detained on Monday for presenting a petition in Beijing.

Thousands Evacuated as Storm Approaches
China evacuated 360,000 people and called 61,000 fishing boats back to shore as it braced for Tropical Storm Kalmaegi, which killed at least six people in Taiwan, state media reported Friday. The eastern provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang were expected to be hit late Friday, the official Xinhua news agency said, quoting provincial flood control authorities.
